Der erste Godzilla von 1954 ist ein
tricktechnisch ( zur damaligen Zeit)
beeindruckendes und auch punkto Handlung
und Dramatik durchaus durchdachtes Werk, in das wohl
das japanische Trauma
der amerikanischen Atombombenabwürfe über Hiroshima
und Nagasaki mithineinspielt.
Regisseur Ishir Honda liess sich von
dem erfolgreichen “The Beast From 20000 Fathoms” beeinflussen.
Godzilla, dessen Name sich aus “gorira”
für Gorilla und “kujira” für Wal zusammensetzt, ist
eine uralte Kreatur aus der Jurazeit, die durch die
Wasserstoffbombentests der USA auf den Inseln
des Pazifischen Ozeans gewecktwird.
Neben der
der japanischen Originalversion von Regisseur
Ishirō Honda existiert auch eine
umgeschnittene internationale Fassung,
für die Terry Morse einige zusätzliche Szenen mit
Raymond Burr als Reporter drehte.
Danach gab es noch etwa 28 Nachfolgefilme,
von denen meist der Eine dümmlicher war
als der Andere...
...was aber unbedarfte Freunde des Monsterfilms nicht
zu stören schien.
